Food Safety

The Environmental Health Division of Jefferson County Public Health manages a number of programs designed to assure the safe service of food throughout the county.  The programs include permits, training and inspection of workers, premises and facilities.

The Food Safety Inspector is available for your questions as follows:

  • "Walk-in"  hours, Monday 9:00 - 4:30 p.m. at the Environmental Health office, 615 Sheridan, Port Townsend.
  •  Tuesday - Thursday by appointment only - please call 385-9444.

2012 Outstanding Achievement Awards presented to 18 Jefferson County Food Establishments

The 2012 Outstanding Achievement Awards were presented at the June 20, 2013 Jefferson County Board of Health meeting to recognize 18 restaurants, full service food establishments and their proprietors who demonstrated the highest standards for safe food handling during the past year.  

The 18 restaurants and proprietors listed below worked hard in 2012 to maintain excellent food safety standards. Most of them are full service restaurants and food establishments that work with complex menus, so they have added food safety challenges. Jefferson County Public Health and the Board of Health recognized them for their dedication to preventing illness and encourages the entire food industry to strive for the same honor.

Criteria for the award were developed by the JCPH Food Safety Roundtable and Jefferson County Food Safety Staff.  These are based upon food safety inspections conducted in the areas of personal hygiene, food temperature safety, and prevention of contamination. All food workers must hold a current Washington State Food Worker Card.
