Who Needs a Food Worker Card?
Washington State Food Worker Cards are required of any person serving and/or selling food to the public. You must take a class and pass an exam to get a valid Card even when you are renewing your old one. Renew before 14 days of expiration and you get an extra year!
What are the classes like?
You will watch a 30-minute video, have questions answered during a discussion period and take a 32-question multiple-choice test. Total class time is approximately 1-1/4 hours and you leave with a valid Card.
Where do I take a class in Jefferson County?
Port Townsend (20 person maximum) Tuesdays, 10:00 to 11:30 Jefferson County Health Department 615 Sheridan, Port Townsend
Chimacum (20 person maximum) 4th Thursday of Every Month, 3 to 4:30 (call first, day changes on holidays) Tri Area Community Center Classroom 10 West Valley Road, Chimacum
How do I register for a class?
Pre-register by calling 360.385.9444 or E-mail. Drop-in students can register 15 minutes before class time, but there is no guarantee of an opening.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Pre-registered students must arrive 15 minutes before class begins. If you arrive later your reservation will not be held and a drop-in student may take your place.
Is there a fee?
Yes, the fee is $10.00, payable by check or exact change.
Can special classes be arranged?
Translators, reading assistance, and group classes can be arranged by calling 360.385.9413.
Should I study before the class?
Yes, read the Food & Beverage Workers' Manual.
How long is my card good for?
New cards are good for 2 years. Renewal cards are good for 3 years if you take a class within 14 days of your current card’s expiration date - renew after the 14-day grace period and your card is valid for 2 years.
What happens if I lose my card before it expires?
You can stop by the Jefferson County Health Department and get a duplicate for $4.00.
