School Based Health Centers

Medical and Mental Health Services are provided in a partnership between Jefferson Healthcare, Jefferson County Public Health & local school districts.  Mental health services are contracted with Jefferson Mental Health Services.  The School Based Health Centers increase access to healthcare for school aged kids.

Port Townsend & Chimacum High Schools

Did you know that Port Townsend and Chimacum High Schools have a Health Center, convenient for your child’s medical care? The Health Center is open during the school year providing comprehensive health care services to all students.

See a health care provider at the School Based Health Center for:
  • Sports physicals
  • Illness/injury
  • Family/Relationship issues
  • Stress Management
  • Birth Control
  • Nutrition
  • and more
To cover our basic operating expenses and to ensure that we are able to continue to provide services, we bill private insurance, Medicaid, or the State Children’s Health Insurance Program and have a sliding fee scale. If your child is currently uninsured, staff will evaluate your qualifications for Apple Health, a state insurance program that provides medical, dental, and vision benefits. Students will not be turned away because of inability to pay. We currently do not bill for mental health services.

Our services focus on prevention and include immunizations, illness/injury assessments, reproductive health care, mental health counseling, and health education. Our staff is trained to understand and treat the special health care needs of teens and includes: a Nurse Practitioner, a Mental Health Counselor, and an Office Assistant. We coordinate your teen’s care with community health care providers where appropriate, including the school nurse and local physicians.

Your child can receive excellent care at the School Based Health Centers. To get started, download the registration form and have your child return the completed form to school. We follow WA State laws on healthcare to minors and students must be registered with signed parental consent to be seen for medical concerns.
