[ARCHIVED] Heat advisory in effect for Jefferson County

Climate ChangeHeat Advisory Video (1)

An excessive heat advisory is in effect for Jefferson County beginning Tues. July 26 through Fri. July 29. Temperatures will vary by location, with south county being the warmest, and more moderate temperatures in the Port Townsend area.
Stay out of the sun during peak hours if possible (10AM to 4PM). Consider canceling outdoor activities in high temperature locations.

  • Stay hydrated, and eat light meals.
  • Wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Do not leave children or pets alone in a vehicle.
  • Warm air does not equal warm water. Be careful of "cold shock" and hypothermia when recreating on the water. Use a life jacket or flotation device.
  • Increased fire risk due to high heat and low humidity - use caution when grilling.
  • DIY air conditioners if you do not have access to one at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ecKcE3FLIU
  • Cooling centers will be available at the following locations:
    • Tri-Area Community Center (Chimacum): Tues.-Thurs. 9AM to 1PM
    • Quilcene Community Center: Tues.-Thurs. 8AM to 2PM
    • Brinnon Visitor's Center: Tues.-Thurs. 9AM to 1PM
    • Port Townsend Senior Center: Tues.-Thurs. 9AM to 4PM
    • Port Townsend Library: Tues.-Thurs.10AM to 7PM; Fri. 10AM to 5PM
    • Jefferson County Library—Hadlock: Tues.-Thurs.10AM to 7PM
  • COVID protocols are recommended but requirements may vary by location.
