Dear Readers,Happy New Year to All! 2022 was a year of emerging through and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic for JCPH. We spent the year rebuilding in many ways; vacant positions have been filled and our staff is growing to reinforce capacity and expand programming. For us, 2023 is a year to promote health and dignity for all people in our community, rooted in renewed optimism to make our world a better place. -Apple Martine, Director

Activity Update- Staff worked with local facilitators from Usawa Consulting to complete a 3-month course in anti-racist literacy training, which was funded by a grant awarded to our communications team from the National Association of County and City Health Officials. Continued funding means even more employees and partners will have the opportunity to receive diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility training in 2023.
- In March 2022, JCPH’s EHS I, Nick Lawlor, helped implement the automotive degreaser replacement program in JeffCo, by working with Ben Richardson of Satch Works Auto Repair in Port Hadlock. With a grant through the WA State Department of Ecology, Ben was fully reimbursed for a new, more environmentally friendly, aqueous-based SmartWasher system and a 6-month supply of OzzyMats and OzzyJuice to go with it. This state program helps reduce the use of ecologically harmful degreasers as many solvent-based degreasers are destructive to the environment and become dangerous waste once the product has been used.
